How Much Do You Really Need to Budget for Buying and Owning Property in Spain?

I’ve been looking into buying a small place in Spain, maybe on the coast, but I keep hearing that the extra costs can really add up. My plan was to spend around €250k total, but now I’m not so sure if that’s realistic once taxes, notary fees, and maintenance are included. Anyone here actually gone through the process recently? I’d love to know what kind of budget I should really plan for before jumping in.

We bought a townhouse near Torrevieja last year, and the hidden costs were definitely more than we expected — legal fees, community charges, even furniture adds up! I’d say plan for at least 10–12% extra on top of the property price. When we first started searching, we used Buy property in Spain to get an idea of market prices in different regions, which helped us adjust our expectations before flying out to view properties.
