CHAT understands that challenges happen in life. We also understand that these challenges can have long-lasting consequences. Families and couples served by the CHAT program have experienced barriers related to obtaining permanent housing. CHAT Family Self Sufficiency Staff work with residents on an individual basis to help identify these barriers and create an action plan for getting residents into permanent housing. 

Transitional housing is a supportive – yet temporary – type of housing that bridges the gap from homelessness to permanent housing by offering structure, supervision, support, life skills, and in some cases, education and training. CHAT participants are able to gain safe, affordable housing while addressing issues that caused their homelessness. 

Located in Building E on the Life Steps Campus, CHAT residents have their own private bedrooms and share common spaces, including bathrooms, living rooms, kitchens, and dining areas. Additionally, the campus features a shared outside green space with a playground. 

Case Managers provide intensive services to residents. They work directly with residents to develop goals and actions plans. These goals and plans are developed after understanding the barriers and challenges that brought the family or couple to the program.  Case Managers help residents access community services and resources to help them gain housing independence. 

Onsite programs are provided for residents, including nutrition education, job readiness training, GEC support, onsite food pantry and supportive services.  New programs are added regularly.

Case managers help residents during the transition to permanent housing options - whether residents are moving to other community programs, rentals, or homeownership.
